2007 Lincoln MKX Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out at Rose Valley Campground in Ojai, a guy was loading up his 2007 Lincoln MKX after a weekend trip and his only key just stopped turning in the ignition. Blade was worn down on one side, visibly rounded off at the cuts. He had been wiggling it for months and finally the wafers would not line up.
He called a dealer first. They told him to get the car towed in, leave it for a couple of days, and they would order a new remote head key and program it. He did not love that idea, standing in a campground with no cell signal half the time and a truck full of gear.
I drove out and decoded the lock on site using the driver door cylinder. Cut a fresh blade on the OUC6000022 shell with an 80-bit 4D-63 chip inside. Connected my IM608 to the OBD-II port under the dash, accessed the body control module (part of what Ford calls the SJB, the Smart Junction Box, module 2C-07), ran the PATS security access timer, and wrote the new key to the system.
Then the part that matters. Three starts in a row, watching the theft indicator each time. On a correctly programmed PATS key, that light comes on briefly at ignition and goes solid off. A rejected key makes it flash fast, about once per second. His was clean every time. Tested all five buttons, checked remote lock and unlock range from about 30 feet away, and confirmed the panic button.
He kept looking at the old key like he could not believe how worn down it was. Whole job took maybe 35 minutes and cost him a fraction of what the dealer quoted before towing was even added.
