2016 Lincoln MKX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Limoneira, the workday starts early. A property manager there called me mid-morning. He had a meeting across Santa Paula in an hour and his 2016 Lincoln MKX wasn't responding to the fob at all. The doors wouldn't unlock from the handle, the start button wasn't seeing the key, and he'd already tried the fob twice standing right next to the car.
He assumed the worst. Dead key, dead module, something expensive.
I drove out and the first thing I did was pop the fob open on the hood. Both CR2025 cells were still in there, but one was seated crooked and the contact on that side had a slight bend keeping it from making full contact. I straightened the contact, seated both cells flush, and handed the fob back.
He clicked lock. Clicked unlock. Walked up to the driver handle. The door opened on touch. He stood there for a second like he wasn't sure that just happened.
That was it. No programming, no new key, no tow. He made his meeting.
I stay in the habit of going through every button and testing the handle sensors before I close up, because I want to know it works, not just that the start button responds. Everything checked out in about ten minutes. When it does turn into a real all-keys-lost job out here, the process is longer, but this one wasn't that.
