2010 Lincoln MKX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2010 Lincoln MKX Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman flagged me down in a church parking lot off Main Street in Downtown Santa Paula. She looked worn out before she even started talking.

She'd already paid another locksmith to replace her 2010 MKX key. He cut the blade, handed her the fob, took the money, and left. The car would crank, run for about two seconds, then die. She called him back. He told her the immobilizer module was bad and that she needed a dealer. That was his whole diagnosis.

I've seen that pattern before. The car cranks and cuts out because the immobilizer didn't complete a clean key learn. The blade cut was fine. The issue was the programming sequence. When a key learn gets interrupted or rushed, the car accepts the data temporarily but doesn't write it permanently. Next startup, the theft deterrent system sees an unrecognized key and kills fuel. The car behaves exactly like a module failure, but it isn't one.

I connected through the OBD port with my programmer, cleared the incomplete key data, and ran a fresh immobilizer learn with the full security access sequence timed out correctly. Watched the theft indicator on the dash prove out. Started clean on the first try.

She asked me to show her the confirmation on my screen before she believed it was done. Fair enough, given what she'd been through. I showed her. She started the car herself three times in a row just to be sure.

The dealer quote she had in her phone was a fraction of what she'd already spent between the two visits. This one took about forty minutes, done in the lot, and the car drove home the same afternoon.
