2012 Lincoln MKX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2012 Lincoln MKX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a parking structure near downtown Santa Paula, late on a Tuesday. The guy was a night janitor, and his only key to his 2012 MKX was gone. Not at home, not in a bag, just gone. He was already thinking about tow trucks.

He didn't have his registration on him. Didn't know what a VIN was. Was about two minutes from calling for a tow to move the car somewhere he could deal with it in the morning.

I walked him through it on the phone. Looked through the windshield, base of the glass, driver's side. He found it. Pulled up his insurance app and the registration was right there in the document folder. That VIN told me everything I needed: key type, system, the right fob blank. I loaded up and headed out.

He met me at the structure. I ran the all-keys-lost procedure through the OBD port, which wipes the old key memory and opens the system up to register fresh fobs. Then I built two new Intelligent Access remotes and enrolled them, tested every button, walked both door handles for touch unlock, and had him do a push-button start himself so he could feel it working before I packed up.

He said he had no idea any of this could be done in a parking garage. I told him that's kind of the point.

The dealer was closed. They would have told him to tow it in the morning anyway. He drove home that night from Limoneira-area Santa Paula with two working keys and his registration back in his app where he found it.

The VIN is the single most useful thing you can give me before I even leave my driveway.
