Got a call from a rideshare driver at a tire shop near UCSB in Goleta. He'd already been burned once. Called one of those cheap Google ads for his 2009 Lincoln MKX, the guy showed up, and the key only half worked. Remote side locked and unlocked fine, but the dash kept flashing the theft indicator and throwing "No Key Detected" when he turned the ignition. Classic sign the RF buttons got paired but the 80-bit PATS transponder never registered to the instrument cluster.

Took about twenty minutes to undo what the other tech skipped.
