Got a call around midnight from a third-shift security guard over on the Main Street corridor in Santa Paula. His only smart key for a 2017 MKX had stopped working while the car sat in his driveway. Push-to-start, no recognized fob, and his shift was supposed to begin in an hour. He had already looked up towing to the Lincoln dealer and was doing the math on missing a night of work on top of it.
I told him to stay put.
Pulled up to his driveway, connected my programmer to the OBD-II port, and ran the all-keys-lost procedure through the body control module. On these second-gen PATS Lincolns the BCM wipes any previously learned fobs and registers new ones in one session. No PIN from the dealer needed, no waiting on a key code request.
His replacement was the 5-button Intelligent Access fob, 164-R7989, with the HU101 emergency insert blade cut on site. Programmed, tested every button, checked passive entry on both front doors and the liftgate, then verified push-to-start with the fob in his pocket and again with it sitting on the back seat for range.
He made his shift. Whole thing took maybe 35 minutes in his driveway, for a fraction of what the dealer plus tow would have run him.
