2012 Lincoln MKZ Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was already in Montecito that morning, finishing up another job near the Upper Village, when the call came in. Guy had just bought a used 2012 Lincoln MKZ. One key, handed over by the dealership, no spare. The sales manager told him to sort it out himself.
He called the Lincoln dealer first. The number they gave him was not small. He had just finished signing loan paperwork and the idea of dropping that kind of money on top of it, before he had even made a single payment, was a hard ask.
He found me online and wanted to know if the dealer number was real. It was. I told him that, no hesitation. But I also told him I could meet him right where he was and take care of it for a fraction of what they wanted.
I pulled up while he was still drinking his coffee. The MKZ takes a remote head key -- blade and fob in one piece, programmed as a unit. I matched the fob, cut the blade to his vehicle on my machine, then connected through the OBD port and registered the new key to the immobilizer. Lincoln and Ford share the underlying platform on this generation, so the procedure is well-documented and the tools I carry handle it cleanly.
He had two working keys before he left for work. That spare matters more than people realize. If he ever loses one down the road, the next job is an add-a-key instead of an all-keys-lost reset, which is faster and less involved for everyone.
He didn't need a dealer appointment, a tow, or a waiting room. Just a mobile tech with the right tools, already in the neighborhood.
