2017 Lincoln MKZ Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A fleet manager from near Moorpark College Area called me about two 2017 MKZ company cars. One fob was held together with electrical tape. Not a joke. The housing had split at the seam, the buttons were mushy, and he wasn't even sure it was still locking consistently. The other wasn't much better.
He'd already called the Lincoln dealer. The combined quote for both keys sent him looking for other options, which is how he found me.
When I pulled up, I popped both fobs open on the hood of the first car. The tape fob was actually fine electronically. The internals were intact, the battery contacts looked okay, and the transponder data read clean on my diagnostic tool. It just needed a fresh housing, a good CR2450, and a properly seated battery clip. The second fob was a similar story. The electronics were still good. Neither one needed full replacement programming. Both needed fresh shells and a blade cut to the car.
I swapped the electronics into new housings, cut the emergency insert blades, and confirmed every function on both fobs before I packed up. Lock, unlock, all the buttons, door handle touch response, start.
His total for both came out to less than the dealer wanted for one car. Same tools, same result, done in the parking lot instead of a service lounge.
He mentioned the dealer had a week-plus lead time just to get the appointment. I was there the same afternoon he called.
