2015 Lincoln MKZ Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A property manager in Montecito, over near Coast Village, called me about a spare key for his 2015 MKZ. He wasn't locked out. He just wanted a second fob because he'd been sharing one with his wife and it was getting old. Smart move.
He had already called the Lincoln dealer. They quoted him a number he wasn't expecting, and that was before he asked any follow-up questions. When he mentioned the car was at his office and he couldn't easily get it to a dealership, they told him his only real option was to bring the vehicle in. No mobile option on their end.
He found me, I drove out to the garage where the MKZ was sitting, and I had everything with me: the replacement fob, the equipment to cut the emergency insert blade, and the diagnostic tools to register the new key through the OBD port. The MKZ uses a security handshake through the body control module before it accepts a new fob. Once that clears, the new key goes in as a second registered fob alongside the original. Both work. Neither one wipes the other.
The whole thing took about 30 minutes. He was back at his desk before it was done. When he texted me afterward, he said he saved a good chunk compared to the dealer quote, and that was without factoring in any tow he would have needed if the situation had been worse.
