Over in the Westside neighborhood in Ventura, a guy flagged me down at the courts near the beach. Not a scheduled call. He saw the EZ Car Keyz van and asked if I could do a Leaf key on the spot.
His only fob had taken a hit during a volleyball game. The case was cracked open and the emergency insert blade had snapped clean off at the shoulder. The PCF7952 chip board inside was fine, no water, no bent contacts, but the shell was done and the blade was useless.
I had a blank CWTWB1U840 shell and an NSN14 key blank on the van. Swapped the chip board and buttons into the new housing, decoded his door lock for the bitting, and cut the new insert blade right there. Then I connected the Autel IM608 to the OBD port under the dash, pulled up the BCM, and ran the Intelligent Key registration to make sure the system still recognized his fob after the board swap.
Then the part that surprised him. I tested every single button. Lock, unlock, panic, charge port door, remote climate. Walked thirty feet out and tested again. Three power-on cycles in a row to check for intermittent "No Key Detected" errors. He stood there watching like he expected me to just hand it over and leave.
The whole thing took about twenty minutes. He did not need a full replacement, just the right fix done on site for a fraction of what the dealer quoted him over the phone.
