Got a call from a guy in the Loma Vista neighborhood in Ventura. His 2019 Leaf had one smart key left and it was acting up. Intermittent "No Key Detected" warnings on the dash, doors not unlocking when he grabbed the handle, and the push-button start needing two or three tries.
He told me he almost had the car towed to the Nissan dealer. They quoted him a long wait for the part and a separate appointment to program it. He just wanted a working spare and to figure out why the original was flaking out.
I showed up, popped open his existing fob on the hood of the Leaf. The CR2032 had some corrosion creep on one of the battery terminals inside the CWTWB1G0168 housing. Cleaned the contacts, fresh CR2032 seated correctly, and that key snapped back to full range. He kept pressing the lock button from further and further away in his driveway like he was testing a science project.
Then I programmed the new spare. The 2019 Leaf uses HITAG AES, so registration goes through the OBD port. Wrote the new key to the BCM, confirmed both fobs on all four buttons, tested proximity unlock on every door and the hatch, and verified the start button caught each key on the first press.
