Got a call from a guy in the Saticoy area of Ventura. 2018 Nissan Leaf, second-gen, the one with the redesigned body. He said the car wouldn't recognize his key at all. Dash just kept flashing "No Key Detected" and the push-button start was dead. He'd already swapped the CR2032 twice.
When I got there, the fob looked rough. Case had a crack near the emergency key slot, and when I opened it up, one of the battery terminals had corrosion on it. Then I walked the whole car, lock, unlock, checked the charge port door release button since that fourth button trips people up on the Leaf. Everything worked.
He told me the dealer quoted him a full replacement fob and said it would take a few days to order the part. He almost went for it. Instead, he got a working key back in about twenty minutes, on site, for a fraction of what they wanted. Sometimes the fix is smaller than the quote.
