The call came in late on a Friday. A woman out in La Conchita, right along the coast on the Ventura side, had her purse grabbed at a valet lot. Keys, wallet, phone - the whole thing. She was borrowing a friend's phone, her 2020 Leaf was sitting in that lot with no key attached to it, and the dealer's after-hours line had already told her roommate it would be three to five business days for parts, the car would need towing, and they strongly suggested changing the locks since the stolen fob could still open the doors. Cut the emergency blade for the door cylinder on each one. Walked every button, tested both fobs at the door handles and the start button, confirmed the dash was reading them clean.
Her roommate pulled up right as I was finishing the second fob. She drove home that night. The stolen key is worthless to whoever has it now.
