1996 Pontiac Grand Prix
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: I don't know my key code and I lost my original key. How do you figure out what cut I need?

Two ways. First option is the key code, which is sometimes stamped on the original key or can be traced through the vehicle's records. If that's not available, the lock cylinder itself tells the story. I can decode the cut directly from the door lock or ignition cylinder using a decoder tool, then cut a new key to match. No original key needed.

Q: I lost all my keys. Can you still make one without an existing key to copy?

Yes, and it's one of the more common calls I get. All-keys-lost on a 1996 Grand Prix is not a complicated situation. I decode the lock on site, cut a new key from scratch, and test it in the door and ignition before I leave. No tow, no dealer appointment, no waiting on a parts order.

Q: My key turns in the ignition but the car won't start. Is the key the problem?

On a 1996 Grand Prix, if the key turns freely and the engine does not crank, the key itself is rarely the cause. A worn key can sometimes fail to fully engage the ignition cylinder tumblers, especially if it's been used for years and the cuts have rounded off slightly. Worth trying a known-good spare if you have one.

Q: Can a locksmith cut a key for this car, or do I have to go to a Pontiac dealer?

A mobile locksmith handles this completely. There's nothing dealer-exclusive about a 1996 Grand Prix key. I come to your location in Wagon Wheel or anywhere else in Oxnard, cut the key on site, and test it. Dealer service is an option, but it means a tow if you have no key, a wait for the parts desk, and a bill that reflects the shop overhead. The mobile route skips all of that.

1996 Pontiac Grand Prix Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from someone parked near the Wagon Wheel area of Oxnard. Lost their only key for a 1996 Grand Prix, no spare anywhere. They had already called around and gotten a couple of quotes that felt off, prices that climbed once the year came up, or guys who wanted them to tow it somewhere first.

I drove out, looked at the lock cylinder, decoded the cut right there on site. The portable cutting machine does the rest. No guessing, no trips to a dealer, no waiting days for a key to be ordered.

New key came out of the machine, slid into the door lock clean, then the ignition. Started up on the first turn.

That was it. The whole job done in the parking lot, for a fraction of what the other quotes were heading toward.

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Does the 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix key fob need a battery replaced?▼

There is no fob for this vehicle. The 1996 Grand Prix uses a plain metal key, nothing electronic attached to it. No battery, no remote, no buttons. Replacement is purely a cut-to-vehicle job.
