Got a call from a guy out in Hollywood Beach, Oxnard, standing next to his 2008 Grand Prix in a parking lot off the boulevard. Lost his only key somewhere between the beach and the car. No spare, no backup, nothing.

Then I connected to the OBD-II port and ran the Passlock relearn through the BCM. The procedure has a built-in 10-minute wait period per cycle, and it takes three cycles, so there is about 30 minutes of just standing around while the BCM clears each security window.
He watched the whole thing from a lawn chair he pulled out of his trunk. Smart move honestly.
After the third cycle, the SECURITY light dropped off the dash, the engine fired, and I tested the new key a few more times cold. Solid every start. He drove home with a working key for a fraction of what the dealer quoted him, same afternoon, no tow truck involved.
