2006 Pontiac Grand Prix
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2006 Pontiac Grand Prix Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a customer over in the Wagon Wheel neighborhood in Oxnard. Keys stolen from their 2006 Grand Prix while it was parked, and they were in full problem mode. They had already called a dealership. The dealer told them to have the car towed in and gave them a wait time of a day or two, minimum.

That part always gets me. The car is sitting there, locked, and the answer is to tow it somewhere and wait two days.

I drove out to Wagon Wheel with my equipment. The job here is not just cutting a new key. When keys are stolen, the old ones need to be wiped out of the system. I connected to the OBD port, cleared all previously enrolled transponder keys from the immobilizer, and programmed a fresh key as the only one the car would recognize. The stolen keys are dead now. They will not start that car.

The customer watched the whole thing from start to finish. When I turned the key and the engine fired up without the immobilizer light throwing a fit, that was the moment. No tow, no waiting, no overnight without a vehicle.

The dealer was not even part of the conversation by the end. It just kind of answered itself.
