Got a call from Heritage Square in Oxnard. A guy's 2006 Grand Prix keys were stolen, and he was less worried about getting a new key cut than he was about the person who took them coming back for the car.

I pulled up and connected through the OBD-II port to the BCM. On the W-body Grand Prix, the Passlock II system ties authorization to the ignition lock cylinder's resistive sensor and the BCM's stored learned value. So clearing the old key data means performing a relearn procedure that wipes any previously stored resistance signature and writes in the new one. Once that locks in, only a key that matches the new relearn will let the engine run. The old stolen keys can turn the cylinder all day long and the fuel system stays disabled.
He wanted two keys. Cut both to the B107 profile, ran the 10-minute Passlock relearn with the first, confirmed the second matched, then tested both through a full start-and-run cycle. Also checked that the "SECURITY" telltale on the instrument cluster behaved right: on briefly at key-on, then off. No lingering light, no three-minute crank lockout.
He stood there watching the dash the whole time, like he half expected the car to argue with the new key. It didn't.
The whole job took about 30 minutes at his curb. A dealer would have needed a tow-in and probably a couple days on the lot before they got to it.
