Got a call from a guy near Rancho Tapo Community Park in Simi Valley. He had a 1999 Boxster sitting in a parking spot with no way to open it. His only key had snapped off in the driver door lock. Half the blade was still jammed inside the cylinder.
He had already called the Porsche dealer. They told him the key blank would need to be ordered, could take a few days, and he would need to tow the car in. He sounded tired when he called me, like he had been on the phone for a while.
I got there and pulled the broken blade fragment out of the lock cylinder with an extractor. Clean pull, no cylinder damage. The 986 Boxster uses a standard Porsche HU66 profile blank, part number 996.637.104.10. No transponder, no chip, no programming. This car predates Porsche's immobilizer rollout on the Boxster line. I cut a fresh key to code right there on site using the lock data and my Condor cutter.
He turned it in the ignition and the flat six fired on the first try. Then he just sat there for a second with his hands on the wheel, like he had gotten the car back from somewhere far away instead of a parking spot he never left.
Whole thing took less than half an hour. A fraction of what the dealer route would have cost him in tow fees alone, before they even touched the key.
