Got a call from Marina West Park in Oxnard. A woman with a 2004 Boxster said her only key was falling apart and she needed a spare before the original gave up completely.
When I got there, the key was rough. The plastic housing had split along the seam near the key ring loop, and she had been holding it together with a hair tie. The three buttons on the flip side were mushy and barely responsive. She had called the Porsche dealer and they quoted her weeks of wait time for an OEM replacement through their parts desk, part number 986-637-243-04 for the remote head key assembly. She did not want to wait.
I decoded her driver door lock using my HU66 Lishi tool to get the bitting. Cut the new HU66 blade right there in the van. The transponder side was the real job. Her 986 runs the Megamos 48 crypto immobilizer through the instrument cluster, so I connected through OBD to the Immobilizer 3 (IMMO3) system on the cluster's W2 board and wrote the new ID48 chip into the system. Programmed the remote functions separately, since the 986 treats the remote and immobilizer as independent channels.
She flipped the new key open, hit lock, heard the chirp, and just stood there nodding like she was checking off a mental list. Tried unlock. Tried the trunk button. Started the car. Pulled the key out. Done.
Whole thing took about 35 minutes in her driveway. A fraction of what the dealer wanted, and no two-week wait.
