A graphic novelist near Lemonwood Park in Oxnard called about her 2010 Golf. Said the key was "falling apart in her hand."
When I got to her driveway, I could see it. The flip shell had cracked right at the hinge, and the HU66 blade was wobbling out of the housing like a loose tooth. She had been holding it together with a hair tie for two weeks. Every time she pressed unlock, the blade would swing out and almost hit the ground.
She had already called the VW dealer. They told her the only fix was a full replacement key, cut and programmed, with an appointment wait of about a week. What they did not mention is that the Megamos 48 CAN chip and the remote circuit board inside her NBG010180T were working perfectly. The immobilizer was happy. The remote still talked to the car. The only thing broken was the plastic shell and the hinge pin.
I popped the old housing open on her hood, transferred the electronics into a fresh shell, and seated the hinge pin so the blade snapped clean. Then I decoded her HU66 keyway with a Lishi, cut a new blade, and dropped it into the new housing. Tested all four buttons, tested the transponder start, walked the doors.
She watched the whole thing take about twenty minutes. The dealer wanted to replace parts that were not broken. She paid a fraction of what they quoted.
