Out in Pleasant Valley Fields in Oxnard, a guy flagged me down by phone on a Saturday. His 2012 Golf was sitting in his driveway with one key that had stopped turning the ignition weeks ago. He'd been using his spare, and then the spare went through the wash.

Plugged my diagnostic tool into the OBD port under the dash, pulled the immobilizer login from the instrument cluster, and wrote the new transponder into the system. His old washed key got deleted so it can't start anything anymore.
The whole job took about 40 minutes. He sat on his front steps and watched most of it, asked a couple of questions about why the blade profile matters, which I like. People who want to understand their car are easy to work with.
He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a wait of over a week plus two separate trips. Instead he got it handled on a Saturday afternoon without moving the car.
