A visiting professor staying at a rental near Del Sol Park in Oxnard called me one evening. Her only key for a 2011 Golf had stopped doing anything. The CR2032 had corroded just enough at one contact to kill the remote signal. But she'd also mentioned the engine cranked slow and quit, so this wasn't just a battery swap.
I plugged into the OBD port under the dash and pulled the immobilizer status through the Immo IV system. Her original key's Megamos 48 CAN transponder was still reading, but the adaptation had drifted. I used the VVDI to re-adapt the key to the immobilizer module and cut a fresh spare on the HU66 profile so she'd have a backup.
She sat on the porch steps watching me work. When the engine turned over clean on both keys, she just quietly said, "I can get to campus tomorrow." That was it. No drama.
