I was parked on the street near the River Ridge side of Windsor North on a Tuesday afternoon when I got the call. A Golf owner had snapped the blade off her flip key inside her door lock. Not the ignition, the door lock. She'd been using the physical key to unlock the car because the remote had been acting up, and one frustrated yank too many did it.
She still had the fob body with the broken stub of blade stuck in her jacket pocket. The car would start because the transponder was still inside the fob housing and she could hold what was left of it near the column, but she couldn't lock or unlock the doors by hand anymore, and the remote was too unreliable to trust.
I brought the full setup: new flip key blank, the cutting rig, and my programming interface for VW. I cut the replacement blade to her vehicle using the door lock and verified it against the ignition. Then I programmed the new key, which means syncing the transponder to the immobilizer and getting all four remote buttons talking to the car again. I also extracted the broken blade stub from her door lock cylinder while I was there, which is the kind of thing a dealer's service counter would have turned into a separate appointment.
She asked what the dealer would have said. I told her honestly: tow it in, wait for a parts order, come back a second day, and pay for each piece of that separately. She just nodded like she'd already figured that out before she called me.
