A nurse near River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard had just picked up a used 2016 Volkswagen Golf off Facebook Marketplace. Good car, fair price, one key. The seller promised a second one was "somewhere in the house." That key never showed up.
She called the VW dealer and they quoted her a wait of seven to ten business days just to order the blank, plus a second appointment to cut and program it. She had just put money down on the car and paid insurance. Another trip and a big dealer bill was not in the plan.
She found me online and asked if the dealer timeline was normal. I told her it was. VW dealers order key shells through their parts system using the part number 5G0 959 752 BE, and the blank has to come in before they even schedule the programming appointment.
I met her at the parking area off Vineyard before she drove the car home. Her key is the NBGFS12P01 four-button flip, Megamos AES transponder. I matched the blank, cut the blade on site, pulled the component security bytes through OBD with my diagnostic tool, and wrote the AES transponder to the immobilizer module. Whole thing, maybe 30 minutes.
I walked her through why having a spare matters now versus later. All-keys-lost on Megamos AES is a longer job and costs more because the immobilizer has to be reset from scratch. Having one working key on hand keeps the add-a-key path open.
She left with two working keys. Lock, unlock, trunk, panic, all four buttons tested at the car.
