Got a call from a guy out near Refugio State Beach in Santa Barbara. His 2000 Audi A4 flip key had been acting flaky for weeks. Lock button worked from two feet away, unlock did nothing unless he pressed it against the door. He figured the whole key was dying.

Range checked from about 30 feet out. Then I confirmed the immobilizer side by starting it three times cold. The Megamos 48 chip read clean each time, no dash flicker, no hesitation.
He kept saying he thought the whole key needed reprogramming. It didn't. The transponder was fine. The remote frequency was fine. It was a worn-out shell and a corroded battery contact. He paid a fraction of what the dealer quoted him over the phone and drove off in about fifteen minutes.
