A mountain biker out near Cachuma Lake Recreation Area in Santa Barbara called me from someone else's phone. He had lost his only key somewhere on the trail. Checked jersey pockets, hydration pack, the dirt around his car. Gone.
His 2004 A4 was sitting in the gravel lot with no way to open it and no way to start it. He had already looked up what the dealer wanted and it included a tow back to town plus a wait for the key to be ordered.
I drove out and started with my HU66 Lishi tool. The B6 A4 uses an HU66 keyway, and the Lishi picks and decodes each wafer position inside the door cylinder so I get exact bitting without the original blade. Once I had that, I cut a new flip key right at the car.
Programming was next. I connected through OBD, pulled the immobilizer login from the instrument cluster, and ran the all-keys-lost procedure. That clears every previously registered ID48 transponder and writes the new one as primary. His remote, the MYT8Z0837231 with part number 4D0837231P, got paired to the receiver at the same time. Lock, unlock, trunk, panic. All four buttons tested clean.
He drove out of that same dirt lot. No tow truck, no week-long wait at the dealer, no second trip. Just a new key built on site for a fraction of what they quoted him.
