Got a call from a guy out near Gaviota State Park in Santa Barbara on a windy Saturday. His 2002 A4 flip key had finally given up. The plastic shell was cracked down the spine, the flip blade was loose, and the lock button hadn't worked in months. He'd been locking the car by reaching through the window and hitting the switch. Creative.
I pulled the instrument cluster data with the VVDI Prog to read the immobilizer login from the Immo III system. The 2002 A4 stores its SKC (secret key code) in the cluster, 8E0-series board, and you need that to register a new transponder. Once I had the login, I moved to the VVDI2 for the actual key programming, wrote the ID48 chip, and paired the remote side of the new MYT8Z0837231 fob.
Cut the HU66 blade on site from the lock decode. Clean cuts on these are important because the B6 A4 sidebar is tight when it's new and gets tighter when there's wear.
Then the part most people don't expect. I tested every button from about 30 feet out. Lock, unlock, trunk, panic. Walked back. Started the car three times cold to rule out intermittent faults. He stood there watching the third start like he was waiting for something to go wrong.
Nothing went wrong. He had a working key again and the whole thing took about 35 minutes where he was already parked.
