2005 Audi A4 Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got the call around 12:40 in the morning from the parking structure near the hospital in the Presidio neighborhood of Santa Barbara. She was an overnight hospitalist, just off a shift, standing next to her 2005 Audi A4 in a mostly empty garage.
She needed a spare key made and she wanted to verify my credentials before I got anywhere near the car. She told me she had already looked up my BSIS license number on the state website before dialing.
That did not catch me off guard. It was the right call. A woman alone in a parking garage late at night should absolutely be checking who she lets walk up to her car with tools. I told her what she would see when I arrived: the van, my ID, and the same license number she had already confirmed online.
She watched the whole job. I walked her through why I was pulling the key apart, what the flip mechanism looked like, and how the chip inside communicates with the vehicle. Her existing key had a worn pivot -- the blade was wobbling slightly in the closed position. We built her spare from a fresh shell and programmed it through the diagnostic port with the factory data path, keeping her original key registered and functional alongside the new one.
When both keys were confirmed working, she tested them herself. Lock, unlock, folding the blade in and out. She handed me back the original and said she had been meaning to get a spare for two years.
The dealer had quoted her a number that made the spare feel like a luxury. With me, it was a fraction of that, done on-site, at an hour when no dealer service bay was open anyway.
