A couple out in Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard came back to their 2012 A4 after a Friday night dinner around 9pm. Fob did nothing. No chirp, no door unlock, no dash recognition. The emergency blade slot on the driver door handle was stiff and they couldn't get it to turn. They figured the car was stranded until Monday when the dealer opened.
I was about 15 minutes out with everything already stocked. HU66 blanks, KESSY fob housings with the 8T0959754G shell, Megamos 48 chips, and CR2032 cells, all in labeled drawers behind my seat.
Their fob battery was stone dead. I popped the housing, seated a fresh CR2032, and the proximity unlock came back. But the dash still showed the key error. The BCM2 module had dropped the fob registration, which happens sometimes after a prolonged dead battery state on these B8 cars. I connected my VVDI2 through the OBD port, pulled the cluster data with the VVDI Prog to verify the immobilizer bytes, and re-registered the key to the BCM2. Engine fired on the first press.
The whole thing took maybe 25 minutes. They drove home that night. The guy kept looking at the start button like he expected it to quit again. It didn't.
When everything is stocked, a call at 9pm on a Friday is the same as a call at 9am on a Tuesday.
