2014 Audi A4 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A shop in the La Conchita stretch of Ventura called me mid-morning. Import mechanic, good reputation, one of those places that takes in European stuff other shops wave off.
They had a 2014 Audi A4 on the lift, wheels pulled, brake job in progress. The customer had dropped off the only key. Somewhere between the tech hanging it on the pegboard and the lift going up, it was gone. Ended up in the floor drain. They had maybe two hours before the customer showed.
I got there while the car was still in the air.
On these A4s with the encrypted immobilizer setup, the process is not a quick OBD handshake. The module came out of the trunk area, I read it on the bench with a solder-free adapter, extracted the security data, and then wrote a new fob into the system. Cut the blade to the vehicle. Put the module back. The whole sequence took just under an hour, including getting the module in and out around the lift equipment.
The car started. I walked every button on the new fob with the shop foreman watching. Locks, the other functions, everything confirmed.
The wheels went back on, the customer picked up the car on time, and the shop got to look like they had it handled the whole time. The dealer would have needed the car towed in and kept it for days. The shop foreman said the customer never even knew anything went wrong.
