2009 Buick Enclave
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2009 Buick Enclave Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy out at Hollywood Beach, Oxnard. He'd had a spare key cut at one of those mall kiosks a few weeks back and figured he was covered. Then his original key broke at the bow, the metal snapped right where it meets the head, and he was left with only the mall copy.

The copy would crank the engine. It would actually turn over and catch for a second, then die. Security light solid on the dash. Classic chip enrollment problem -- the key had been cut correctly to the lock, but whoever made it either used a blank without the right transponder or the chip never got programmed at all. The vehicle's immobilizer did exactly what it's supposed to do. Saw an unrecognized chip, killed fuel delivery, done.

He was parked on the street a block from the beach with nowhere to be, which is the best possible scenario for this kind of call. I came to him.

I pulled up the key data through the OBD port, confirmed what the system had stored, and programmed a fresh key with the correct transponder on site. Cut the blade to match the lock. Tested cold start, then shut it off and tested again twice more to make sure the immobilizer was reading consistently and not just passing the first handshake.

Worked clean both times. He asked what the dealer would have done differently. Honestly, not much -- except made him tow it in and wait a day or two. He paid a fraction of what that would have run him and drove off in about forty minutes.
