The call came from Tomol Interpretive Play Area in Carpinteria. A mom with three kids and a dead key fob battery.
She'd already tried the emergency blade in the driver door. Nothing. The 2024 Enclave has that hidden cylinder behind the handle cap, but hers wouldn't budge. Turns out the lock cylinder was seized from never being used. Smart keys make us forget about mechanical backups until we need them.
I showed up with my Autel IM608 and a can of lock lube. First things first: got the cylinder working again with some gentle persuasion and graphite. Then popped the HYQ4ES fob open right there on her hood. The CR2032 was dated 2022, probably original from the factory.
New battery in, but the BCM still showed "No Remote Detected." These new Enclaves need a wake-up sequence after the fob goes completely dead. Quick key relearn through the OBD port cleared the fault and got all five buttons working again.
The kids watched through the window while I tested each function. Lock, unlock, both power slides, and the hatch. Their mom just wanted to get them home before naptime turned into meltdown time.
