Saturday morning near Conejo Community Park in Thousand Oaks, a soccer league coach flagged me down in the community center lot. He'd already paid another locksmith for a 2015 Buick LaCrosse key that never worked right. The car would crank, run for about two seconds, then die. Classic PK3+ fuel disable. The other tech told him the BCM was fried and left.
The BCM was fine. GM's Body Control Module on these second-gen LaCrosses requires a timed security access procedure before it will accept a new transponder. If the relearn sequence gets interrupted or the tech skips the security access seed-key exchange, the BCM logs a B2960 (Security System Key Code Mismatch) and locks out. That is exactly what happened.
I pulled out my B111 Lishi, decoded the HU100 sidewinder to verify the mechanical cut was correct. It was. The blade was good. Then I connected through OBD-II with my IM608, read the BCM (GM part number on his was 13594622), cleared the faulted PK3+ entry, ran a proper security access login, and completed a clean transponder relearn. All five buttons on the OHT01060512 responded. Engine started, stayed running, no fuel cutoff.
I showed him the live data on my screen, no more B2960 stored. He stood there watching the engine idle like he was waiting for it to quit again.
He did not need a new BCM. He needed someone who had done this relearn before.
