Out near North Ranch Open Space in Thousand Oaks, a guy with a 2018 LaCrosse called me because his key blade snapped clean inside the driver door lock. He had tried to use the mechanical backup after his fob went dead on a hike. The blade broke flush with the cylinder face.
He had already called another locksmith who told him the HU100 cylinder would need to be drilled out. On a GM proximity system, drilling the door lock creates a real headache. You end up replacing the cylinder, and now you have a mechanical key that does not match the rest of the car. It snowballs.
I used an HU100 Lishi to extract the broken fragment without touching the internal wafer surfaces. Took patience, not force. Once the piece came out clean, I decoded the lock right there and cut a fresh HU100 blade to match. Then I paired a new HYQ4EA fob through the diagnostic port, sat through GM's 10-minute security countdown, and tested every function: passive entry on all four doors, push-button start, lock, unlock, remote start, and trunk release.
He stood there watching the whole time like he was waiting for something to go wrong. Nothing did.
No drilling, no cylinder swap, no mismatched keys. He saved a good chunk over what the other locksmith's plan would have cost, and the car looked the same as when he parked it.
