1998 Cadillac Seville Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in College Area, over in Ventura, called me about his 1998 Cadillac Seville SLS. He had one working key left and the plastic bow was splitting at the seam. Every time he turned the ignition, he'd hold the key head together with his thumb and forefinger like he was pinching a coin. He said he'd been doing that for about six months.
He called the Cadillac dealer first. They told him to bring the car in, leave it, and they'd get to it when they could. He didn't love that answer.
I parked at his building and used my Lishi GM Z keyway pick and decoder on the door lock to read each wafer position. The 1998 Seville uses the B99 keyway with a ten-cut sidebar, so getting clean reads matters. Cut the new blade on my Condor, then seated a fresh ID13 transponder chip in the new key head.
Programming on these is done through the OBD-II port. The BCM has to learn the new transponder's fixed code, and GM's PassKey III system runs a ten-minute security relearn timer. You just sit through it. No shortcut.
He watched the whole thing from his front step, holding a coffee. When the new key fired the Northstar on the first turn, he looked at his old cracked key and just tossed it in the trash without a word.
Whole thing took about 35 minutes, and he never left the building.
