A paint shop over in the Bel Air Knolls neighborhood in Santa Barbara called me on a 2003 Cadillac Seville that was sitting dead after a respray. They had called another locksmith first. That guy showed up, tried to program a key, got an immobilizer fault on the Body Control Module, and left without finishing.
Now the car wouldn't accept any key. The Security light on the Driver Information Center was locked solid, the starter wouldn't even crank, and the BCM was stuck in a fault state from the failed attempt.
I brought my ACDP bench tool. Pulled the BCM from behind the dash, read the EEPROM, cleared the stored theft deterrent fault, and rebuilt the PK3+ key registration from scratch. Cut a new B99 blank with the Megamos ID 13 chip, matched it to the cleaned module, and reinstalled everything.
First turn of the key after the reset, the Security light flickered and went out. Engine fired clean.
The paint shop guys were watching the whole thing. I walked them through what went wrong so they'd know to flag it if another customer ever ran into the same situation. One of them said his cousin had a Seville with the same security light problem and had been doing the ten-minute relearn trick every morning for a year. That is no way to live.
Total job ran about 90 minutes, which is longer than a normal key cut and program but a lot shorter than a flatbed ride to the Cadillac dealer and a multi-day wait.
