Got a call from a guy up in the Mission Canyon area of Santa Barbara. His 2000 Seville SLS would crank but not fire, and the Driver Information Center was flashing "Starting Disabled Remove Key Wait 3 Minutes." Classic PK3 lockout behavior.
He had already tried the 10-minute relearn procedure three times. Turn the key on, wait for the security light to stop flashing, turn off, repeat three cycles. It never completed. He was sitting in his driveway watching that little padlock icon blink over and over.
I drove out with my programmer and PK3 key stock. First thing I did was read the resistance and transponder response through the OBD-II port using the Body Control Module. The BCM on these is the Delphi unit, part number 09386464 on most 2000 Sevilles. His original key's transponder was dead. The glass capsule inside the plastic head had cracked, probably from years of bouncing around on a keychain with a dozen other keys.
Cut a new B99 transponder key, paired the ID 13 chip to the BCM through the theft deterrent relearn, and ran three start cycles to confirm the security light stayed off. The whole thing took about 25 minutes at his car.
He told me the dealer quoted a tow-in plus a multi-day wait because they had to order the key blank. He was looking at losing his car for days. Instead he watched from his front steps while I finished the job.
