1999 Cadillac Seville
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How does mobile key replacement actually work for a 1999 Seville?

When you call, give me your year, make, model, and VIN. I confirm the right key blank and show up with everything needed: the correct chipped blank, my cutting machine, and the programming equipment for GM vehicles of this era. On site, I cut the blade to your vehicle's specs, program the transponder to the immobilizer, and test it in the ignition before I hand it over. The whole job is done right next to your car.

Q: What do I need to have ready when you arrive?

Your vehicle, a valid photo ID, and proof of ownership. Registration or title works. I pull the VIN from the dashboard or door jamb to verify everything matches before any work starts. Same documentation a dealer would ask for, but verified on site in a few minutes instead of making you run home for paperwork or come back another day.

Q: My 1999 Seville cranks but will not start after I had a new key cut. What is going on?

Almost certainly a transponder issue. On this generation Seville, the immobilizer reads the chip in the key head during cranking. If the chip is absent, wrong, or was never programmed, the engine will crank normally and then die right away or refuse to fire at all. The ignition lock cylinder does not care about the chip; it just reads the mechanical cut. The immobilizer is the part that decides whether fuel and spark actually happen.

Q: I only have one key left for my 1999 Seville. Should I get a spare made now or wait until I actually need it?

Make the spare now. With a working key in hand, this is an add-a-key job. If that last key gets lost or stops working, it becomes an all-keys-lost job, which takes longer, requires more steps, and costs more. The difference between those two scenarios is significant on a vehicle this age. Getting a second key cut and programmed while you still have the original is the simpler, cheaper path by a wide margin.

1999 Cadillac Seville Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in the Hillsides neighborhood in Ventura, I got a call from a guy who had just bought a 1999 Cadillac Seville at an estate sale. The family handed him one key, told him the car ran great, and wished him luck.

He was not wrong that it ran great. He just did not love the idea of owning a single key with no backup. He called the dealer first. They quoted him a number that made him pause long enough to go looking online, which is how he found me.

I met him in his driveway. The original key was intact and it was the right chipped version, which made everything cleaner. I read the transponder data from the working key and used that to program a new one to the vehicle. Cut the blade to match on my machine right there on the hood, ran through the verification, and tested it in the ignition.

It started on the first turn, which is the moment that always matters. He turned it off, tried it again just to be sure. Still good.

He paid a fraction of what the dealer wanted and walked away with two working keys instead of one. The part I always mention at the end of a job like this: that second key is insurance. If something happens to the original down the road, he is doing an add-a-key job instead of an all-keys-lost job, and those are very different conversations.

Cadillac Seville Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 1999 Cadillac Seville to a shop for key replacement?▼

No. EZ Car Keyz is fully mobile. I come to wherever the car is sitting, whether that is your driveway in the Hillsides or a parking lot somewhere else in Ventura. I bring the key blank, the cutting equipment, and the programming tools. Everything happens next to your car. Dealers will typically want you to drive in with a working key or, if you have no key at all, tow the car to their service bay.
