A guy in the East Ventura neighborhood had just picked up a 1999 Cadillac Seville STS at an estate sale. Beautiful car, well kept, but it came with one key. The family handing it over gave him a single blade with a worn-out remote and told him to figure out the spare situation on his own.
He called the Cadillac dealer first. They told him to bring the car in and leave it, probably a couple days for the parts and programming. He found me online and asked if that timeline was normal.
I told him it was normal for a dealer. Not for a locksmith.
I met him at his place, read the transponder data from his working key with my VVDI2, and programmed a new PK3 transponder through the OBD-II port. The Seville's BCM, a Delphi unit on the K-body platform, accepts add-a-key when you have at least one working original. I cut the B99 blade on my Condor, synced the new remote, and tested both keys through full start cycles.
He stood there turning one key over in each hand like he was comparing them for weight.
Whole thing took about 25 minutes. He drove off with two working keys for a fraction of what the dealer quoted for one. That spare also means if he ever loses one, any future call is a simple add-a-key job instead of an all-keys-lost procedure, which saves a good chunk on any GM vehicle.
