Out near Westlake Village, I got a call from someone parked in a shopping center lot off Thousand Oaks Boulevard. They had the key, the car started fine, but the remote had stopped working entirely. They'd already bought a replacement fob online and had it in hand when they called me.
The Concorde was a mid-90s three-button unit, the factory fob with the CR2016 inside. When I got there I popped theirs open first, before even touching the new one. The original fob had a CR2025 in it, which is physically thicker. Someone had swapped it in at some point thinking a battery is a battery. It was seated crooked, pushing against the case, and the contact wasn't making clean connection.
I put the correct CR2016 in the original fob, reseated the board, closed it up, and walked the lot testing lock and unlock from a distance. Worked clean from the first press.
The new fob they'd bought online went back in the bag. They hadn't needed it at all. Just the right cell, seated right.
