I got a call from a property manager up on Eucalyptus Hill in Montecito. He managed several rental properties in the area and used a 2002 Chrysler Concorde as his run-around car for getting between sites.
He'd had a spare cut at a hardware kiosk months earlier and never tested it. The day his main key went missing, he grabbed the spare, put it in the ignition, and got nothing. The car cranked but died immediately, every single time.

He asked what the dealer would have charged. I told him to call and find out, but that it would involve scheduling, probably a tow since he had no working key, and more than a few days of waiting. He said the tow alone would have been a headache given where the car was parked. Getting it done in the driveway, same morning, was worth a lot more to him than the price difference.
