A barber near Butterfly Beach in Montecito flagged me down about his 2004 Chrysler Concorde. He wanted a spare key he could actually trust as a daily driver, not something that sits in a junk drawer. He also wanted to know if it would be "as good as dealer." Fair question.
Here is the honest answer. His Concorde uses a SKIM transponder key with a Y160 blade and a PCF7936 chip inside the plastic head. That is the same generation Sentry Key system Chrysler put in these second-generation LH cars from 1998 through 2004. The dealer orders a blank with the Chrysler logo, cuts it, and programs it through the DRBIII or wiTECH. I do the same cut and the same SKIM registration on site with my programmer.
I cut the Y160 blade on my machine, matched it to the door, then ran the SKIM procedure through the OBD-II port. Took about fifteen minutes. The new key started the car on the first turn, no SKIM light, no crank-no-start.
He turned it over in his hand a couple times, checking the feel. No Chrysler logo on the bow. That was the only difference. He pocketed it and went back to his next haircut.
The dealer would have had him leave the car there, maybe for a day, for a good chunk more. He kept his afternoon instead.
