Hollywood by the Sea in Oxnard is a quiet stretch, the kind of neighborhood where someone's been driving the same sedan for years and never thought twice about the key fob until it stopped working.

A guy there had a 1997 Dodge Intrepid that had been sitting in the driveway most of the summer. He went to grab groceries and the remote just did nothing.
