Got a call from a guy out near Hollister Village Plaza in Goleta. He had been out at a trailhead with his ATV, unloaded his quad, and somewhere between the trailer ramp and the dirt lot his key just vanished. Probably bounced out of his pocket on the trail. His 2001 Dodge Intrepid was sitting there locked, no spare, and the nearest Dodge dealer was well over an hour away.
He had already called another locksmith. That guy told him the ignition cylinder would likely need to be drilled out and replaced. He called me for a second opinion.
I drove out and used my Y157 Lishi tool to decode his door lock, reading each wafer position inside the cylinder without removing or damaging anything. That gave me the factory cut depths for a new blade. I cut a fresh Y160-PT key on the spot, then programmed the Philips PCF7936 transponder chip to his Sentry Key Immobilizer Module through the OBD-II port. All-keys-lost procedure on these second-gen Intrepids talks directly to the SKIM module on the CCD data bus.
No drilling, no cylinder swap, no tow. His original lock works with the new key exactly the way it always did. The other locksmith was quoting a full cylinder replacement and a trip to a shop. I did it in a dirt parking lot for a fraction of that.
