2006 GMC Canyon Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a woman near Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura. She was a home health aide, parked in one of the residential streets behind the hospital, and her 2006 Canyon would not respond to the remote at all. Doors, nothing. Panic, nothing. She was already running late to a patient visit and thought the truck itself had an electrical problem.
I asked the usual questions. Battery ever been changed in the fob? She didn't know it had a battery.
I got there in about twenty minutes. Popped the back cover off the L2C0007T, and the CR2032 inside was corroded on one side, voltage down around 2.4. Swapped it for a fresh cell, cleaned the contacts on the board, and tried the remote. Still nothing. That told me the remote had lost its sync with the body control module.
Ran the GM remote relearn procedure through the truck, which on these first-gen Canyons is done through the DIC buttons on the dash, not the OBD port. Hold the vehicle info button, step through to the relearn prompt, press and hold both lock and unlock on the fob until the locks cycle. Took about two minutes.
She stood there watching the doors lock and unlock like it was some kind of magic trick. It was a dead battery and a lost pairing. That is it. No tow, no dealer visit, no half-day wait at the service counter.
