2007 GMC Canyon Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a guy near Ventura County Medical Center who was sitting in his 2007 Canyon watching the security light blink on the dash. Truck cranked fine but would not fire. He had already swapped the battery in his L2C0007T remote twice thinking that was the problem.

I told him on the phone it was probably the key, not the remote. Two different things on these trucks. The remote locks and unlocks. The PK3 transponder key is what talks to the body control module so the engine will actually start. His remote was working fine the whole time.

When I got there I checked the key with my IM608. Dead transponder. The Passlock system in the BCM was rejecting the key and holding the fuel injectors off, which is exactly what a PK3 failure looks like on these GMT355 trucks. Cranks strong, just no start.

Cut a new PK3 transponder key, programmed it to his BCM through the OBD port. The 10-minute security relearn cycled through while we talked about how his old key probably got killed by a magnet on a phone mount. It happens more than people think.

Truck fired right up. He still had his original L2C0007T remote working the locks the entire time. He just needed someone to tell him which half of the system actually broke.
