2016 GMC Canyon
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2016 GMC Canyon Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was out in Waverly Heights on a weekday afternoon, parked in front of a house on a quiet street where the only sound was a sprinkler system doing its thing two yards over.

The owner had a 2016 Canyon, a single key to his name, and a kid starting at a new school the next morning. He did not lose the key. He snapped it off in his hand pulling it from the ignition cylinder. The bow came away clean and the blade stayed inside the lock. That is one of those moments where you just hold both pieces and stare.

He called me instead of a tow truck, which was the right call.

I pulled the broken blade with an extractor, no drama, cylinder stayed intact. Then I decoded the lock, cut a fresh key to his vehicle, and ran the programming through the OBD port. The new key fired the engine on the first turn.

He mentioned the dealer, almost in passing, like he expected me to say I could not match what they offered. I just showed him the working key. The dealer would have needed the truck brought in, and the wait on a key job like this at a GM store is not always the same day. We were done in his own driveway before his sprinklers finished their cycle.

What he saved, money-wise, was real. But I think what mattered more was that he did not have to figure out a tow, a rental, or how to handle school drop-off the next day. The truck was sitting right there, ready to go.
