Over in the Wagon Wheel neighborhood in Oxnard, a woman flagged me down at a temple parking lot on a Saturday. She told me another locksmith had already come out for her 2008 Honda Fit. He'd cut a key, charged her, and left. The car would crank for about two seconds, then the immobilizer killed fuel injection. Classic incomplete IMMO learn. The module was fine. He just didn't finish the job.
Honda's 8E transponder system has a timed security handshake during registration. If you rush it or pull the tool early, the ECU accepts the key data into temporary memory but never commits it. The car cranks, fires briefly, then cuts. Looks like a hardware failure if you don't know what you're looking at.
I verified the mechanical cut with my HON66 Lishi. Blade was actually decent. Connected through OBD with my IM608, cleared the botched key data from the first attempt, and ran a clean IMMO learn with the full security countdown. Once the 8E chip wrote to permanent memory, the engine held and ran smooth. No two-second cutoff.
I tested all three buttons on the OUCG8D-380H-A, lock, unlock, trunk, and showed her the confirmation screen on my IM608 so she could see the key was actually registered this time.
She'd already paid the first guy. I couldn't fix that part. But the car worked when I left.
