2011 Honda FIT Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over at Moorpark Marketplace, a guy who works the warehouse at the big box store flagged me down in the lot. His 2011 Fit had a key made by another locksmith about a week earlier. Worked fine at first. Then it started failing, usually in the evening after the car had been sitting through a shift. Engine would crank but not catch, and the immobilizer light on the dash would blink instead of going solid.
He thought his car had an electrical problem. It didn't.
I pulled out my VVDI2 and read the transponder in his existing key. Wrong chip generation. Whoever cut it used something close enough to pass the initial handshake with the immobilizer, but Honda's system runs a deeper verification over multiple start cycles. After enough drive cycles, it stops accepting a chip that doesn't match the ID46 Hitag2 protocol his Fit expects.
Programmed a new remote head key with the correct chip, cut the blade to his door lock, and while I had the fob open I noticed his CR1616 was almost dead. Swapped that too so he wasn't chasing a second ghost.
He stood there watching me test the remote from across the lot. Lock, unlock, trunk, panic. All four buttons. Then a cold start. Immobilizer light went solid and the engine caught immediately.
That key is still working months later. The difference between a key that lasts and one that quits on you is the chip inside it.
