2013 Honda FIT Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Near Moorpark College, a couple was standing next to their 2013 Honda Fit with a broken key in two pieces. Remote head in one hand, blade stuck in the driver door lock. They bought the car used a few years back with one key. Never got around to a spare.
The blade had cracked right at the pivot, which is a known weak point on these MLBHLIK-1T remote heads. Honda even updated the shell design on later part runs because that hinge area takes all the stress. Theirs finally gave up.
I pulled the broken blade fragment out of the lock cylinder, then popped the cracked remote head open on the hood so they could see the ID46 chip sitting in its little pocket, perfectly intact. Used my VVDI2 to clone the transponder data off that chip rather than running a full all-keys-lost reset through the OBD port, which would have taken longer and cost more. Decoded their lock wafers, cut two fresh Honda HO01 blades, and rebuilt the fob into a new shell with the cloned chip seated inside.
Forty minutes, start to finish. Two working keys where there had been zero. The husband kept flipping the new key open and closed, testing the pivot. I told him that one is built better than the original.
They left with a spare this time. Lesson learned the hard way, but not the expensive way.
