In Fillmore, over in Heritage Valley, a couple called me about their 2020 Honda Fit. One key, total loss. The blade had cracked at the pivot on their only fob and snapped clean while they were trying to get into the car. Remote head in one hand, blade stuck in the door lock. Nowhere to go.

The good news was the fob housing was cracked but the internals were still intact. I extracted the blade fragment from the door lock first, then decoded the lock cylinder to get the cut. That gave me what I needed to cut fresh keys without running a full all-keys-lost procedure, which saved a real chunk of time. I transferred the working components from the damaged fob into a new shell, verified the electronics were reading correctly, and programmed two fobs to the car instead of one. Tested every button, tested both keys in the push-button start, walked the door handles.
Forty minutes, start to finish. They went from zero working keys to two. The dealer had already been called before me and the quote was not close to what they paid. The piece that made it faster and cheaper was the fob internals surviving the crack. That's not always the case, but when it is, you work with it.
The spare key conversation happened naturally at the end. They didn't need the lecture. They'd already lived it.
