A couple at their street parking spot in the Central Avenue downtown area of Fillmore had exactly that story. Their only key to their 2020 Honda Fit cracked at the blade pivot point and snapped clean off when they tried to open the door. Remote head in one hand, blade stuck in the lock cylinder. Zero working keys and a car they couldn't get into or start.
I pulled the broken blade fragment out of the door lock and decoded the wafers. The chip inside the cracked KR5V1X housing was still intact, an ID47 transponder sitting in place on the board, no damage. I used my programmer to clone the transponder data from the broken key head straight into a new shell, which meant I didn't need to run a full all-keys-lost procedure through the OBD port. Cut two fresh blades, rebuilt the fob, tested all four buttons and the immobilizer response.
They went from zero working keys to two in about 40 minutes. I showed them the chip from the cracked key so they could see it was still good. The second key is basically insurance. Next time something breaks, having a working spare on hand means a faster, cheaper job instead of a full reset from scratch.
