Over near High Street in Moorpark, a guy flagged me down while I was already packing up from another call. He had a 2012 Honda Fit sitting in the lot with zero working keys. His only key had snapped clean at the blade, right where the plastic meets the metal. He still had both pieces in his hand, turning them over like he could will them back together.
I decoded his driver door cylinder and cut a fresh blade for the MLBHLIK-1T remote head key. Then I connected my IM608 to the OBD-II port under the dash, accessed the Honda immobilizer module, and started the ID46 transponder registration. Honda's security procedure on these has a timed countdown built into the process, so there is a short wait while the system resets and accepts the new chip.
Once it finished, I tested the mechanical turn in the ignition, then fired the engine three times back to back. After that I walked the remote: lock, unlock, trunk release, panic, all from about 30 feet out. Then I did it again from the driver seat with the door closed.
He kept looking at the broken key in his palm and then back at the new one like he was comparing them. I told him to toss the old one so it would not end up jamming a lock later.
The whole thing took less than an hour, right there in the lot, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted him over the phone.
